Spring is finally here, even though Mother Nature may say differently, but that means Summer will be here before we know it! With the weird on again, off again warm and sunny weather we have been having, it has me constantly daydreaming of Summer.
Side note: Being from Buffalo, we know our “Summer” weather is limited, so as soon as the weather breaks, we are outside and raring to go. It could have snowed yesterday, but if it’s 60 degrees and sunny today, you can bet your bottom dollar you’re going to smell the scent of grilling and see your neighbors sitting on their front porches.
That being said, one of my favorite things to do over the summer is to hike the Niagara Gorge. The Niagara Gorge consists of several trails that border the Niagara River Gorge. There are several different paths to take around or down into the Gorge, perfect for all ages and types of hikers!
There are so many picturesque views when hiking the Gorge. Depending which Gorge trail you take, it can be quite challenging or very easy, but no matter what, the views never fail to be inspiring.
What I recommend you take with you when you hike the Gorge:
- Water bottle
- Snacks (Granola bar, apple)
- Plastic Bag (to put your garbage in until you get back out to the parking lot)
- Lightweight book bag/drawstring bag
- a buddy! It is always better to hike with someone than to hike alone. If you are going alone, make sure you are always aware of your surroundings and you have a fully charged cellphone!
The great thing about the Niagara Gorge is that it is extremely accessible from the surrounding areas, yet it is often forgotten as a Summer Must-Do! So grab a back pack, a friend, and a pair of shades and get out and explore the beautiful Niagara Gorge!
